Company Profile
Shenyang Gelar Composite Materials Co., Ltd. is a joint venture invested by the Europe-based Gelar group, utilizing advanced European technologies and specializing in the R&D, production and sales of high-performance engineering plastics. As the manufacturing base of the European enterprise in China, we produce high-quality products by advanced production equipment, strict quality control system and continuous R&D capability. Our "polyceramoplast™"product series are composite materials manufactured from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) and modified additives through modification technologies. Among them, the polyceramoplast™ α,β,γ series—polyceramic composites—benefit from unique production technology and specialized equipment, significantly enhancing the modified properties of UHMWPE to achieve superior wear resistance and anti-adhesion performance.

Gelar aim to become a world-leading high-performance engineering plastics and composite materials manufacturer.

FAQ
Q: Is it possible to use UHMWPE for protection against abrasive wear (sandblasting)? The task is to protect a metal cement slurry feed nozzle from abrasion. Will a UHMWPE liner help protect the nozzle from wear? Or should we look towards boron carbide?

A: For the stated purposes, the use of UHMWPE is not feasible—it will wear out quickly. Few materials can compare to ceramics in terms of wear resistance.

Polyceramoplast composites are effective against adhesion/freezing and chemical-abrasive wear in mining equipment, where covering large areas with expensive ceramics is economically impractical and where the lifespan of ceramics would be excessive.

Q: Earlier, there was an answer about cutting with a milling cutter or waterjet. Would a handheld router or an electric wood planer be suitable for chamfering?

A: Chamfering with manual tools is possible. The precision of the processing in this case depends on the skill of the operator.

Q: How suitable is laser cutting for UHMWPE plates of varying thicknesses? What recommendations can you provide for laser cutting?

A: Laser cutting is not used for UHMWPE: the laser melts the edges, causing the material to lose its properties in the cutting zone, and yellowing is observed. Milling or waterjet cutting is recommended.

Q: What is its resistance to ultraviolet light?

A: UHMWPE itself, without additives, is resistant to UV and thermal oxidation (unlike HDPE/LDPE). With the addition of stabilizers, its resistance increases to a level sufficient for several decades.

Q: What is the procedure for establishing a warranty period for products (policy)?

A: Typically, we provide a warranty for the material's compliance with the specifications in the technical data sheet (wear resistance, tensile strength, impact toughness, etc.)—this can be considered the policy and the main aspect of the warranty.

In individual cases, we provide a warranty for the performance of the lining or product in a specific unit/mechanism (e.g., a "turnkey" bucket)—for up to 1 year. The decision is made based on a completed questionnaire.
